Blackburn v Burnley Golf Day 2016
In his playing days, David Dunn always liked to beat Burnley and the Rovers fans loved him for it. Well, he’s been at it again, although this time on the golf course.
The now annual golf match between the Rovers and Burnley was played at Great Harwood GC and, playing on his home course, Dunny led Blackburn to a comfortable revenge win.
Dunn was making his first appearance for the former players team, which included three other new boys, Jimmy Quinn, Roy Tunks and 94/95 Premier League title winner Mark Atkins. Burnley’s team included Ian Brennan, Brian Flynn, Marcus Phelan and John Dawson. Having played out a tie in 2014 at Stonyhurst Park and after Burnley won comfortably on home turf in 2015 at Nelson, revenge was sweet for Blackburn.
Dunny’s team were comfortably the best individual scorers on the day leading Blackburn to a convincing win.
The match raised almost £3000 which will be shared equally between BRFPA, BFPA and the Birmingham Childrens Hospital, the nominated charity of Michael Eccles, the captain of Great Harwood.
On behalf of both Former Players Associations, a huge thank you must go to Great Harwood members for giving up their course for the day and for their hospitality before and after the match and in particular to Andy Dean for all his help in the organisation.
The venue for next year’s match is still to be decided, but anyone interested in playing for Rovers should contact Brian Marsden at [email protected] for more details.
